life

So a little diversion from the LOLs, but here are two poems that Kelsey and I wrote for an english project of mine. Comments are wonderful!

Pessimistic: “Vase”
Life is a vase:
wonderful to look upon,
accented with such vivid creativity,
and can hold so many beautiful things--
yet so easily destroyed, so very fragile.
it's easily jarred,
and even the slightest push
can knock it to the ground
and shatter its existence.

Optimistic: “iPod”
Life is an iPod,
press shuffle and see what you get.
Is it a mellow, happy, upbeat sing along?
Every beat has its own drum,
many diverse tunes,
long or short, many hidden messages.
Boom, boom, my ears pounding with the loudness
and all you have to do is listen.

5 Truths on Humor

(btw, i reeeally hoped i spelled that title right. lol)

1-
People laugh at other people’s flaws, mistakes, downfalls, failures, imperfections, and shortcomings. It is just an unpleasant fact about society. It makes them feel better about themselves and fuels the human’s natural desire to be dominating over others.

2-
One must learn to laugh at himself. Chances are that if one can read, one is a human being. With that fact established, one must now understand that he has flaws, mistakes, downfalls, failures, imperfections, and shortcomings. Now realize those are funny! If one is teased about asking a question that is insanely stupid, go with it! Laugh at it! Find the humor in the situation. One will live a healthier and happier life if one does not dwell on the negative things about oneself and, instead, finding the absurdity in them.

3-
One must think as he speaks. Now most people will say that one should think before they speak, but to me, that is illogical. If somebody gives one the perfect setup for a joke or a witty answer, you cannot wait five minutes to answer. One must have their answers ready as a situation presents itself. If one comes to an improvisational roadblock, then one must stall. It helps to use phrases such as “Well what had happened was…” and “Here’s the thing.”

4-
One must find humor in everything. One must face facts: there is something funny about every situation and circumstance in life. If one can master the skill of laughing and finding the lighter side of situations, one will be a happier person. One will not be stuck in this gloomy, depressing, solemn anti-party that is today’s society. :)

5-
One must know what is not funny. Any super sleuth would find that the previous paragraph contradicts this paragraph’s focus. But the truth is, it is the truth. Not everything is funny to all people. One’s quick wit might find humor in the Spanish textbook saying a person in a wheelchair is “muy activo,” but not everybody will. The key is to keep the things that are funny, but not funny, to oneself. One does not know the lives and trial of others around them. Out of common mutual human respect, one must be conscious of what one is saying.
